From August 25 to 28, 2025, the 13th National Wheat Genomics and Molecular Breeding Conference, organized by the Crop Science Society of China and co-hosted by Huazhong Agricultural University, the Institute of Crop Science of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Grain Crops Research Institute of Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences, was successfully held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. As a premier academic event in the field of wheat research in China, the conference set new records in both scope and impact—bringing together wheat experts from across the country, with 120 participating institutions and nearly 900 attendees.
Professor Wenhao Yan and the Wheat Improvement and Innovation Team from the College of Plant Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, have published an online research article in Genome Biology entitled “Chromatin loops gather targets of upstream regulators together for efficient gene transcription regulation during vernalization in wheat.” This study revealed a regulatory model in which chromatin loops bring downstream target genes of core regulatory factors into proximity, thereby facilitating the efficient activation of these targets by upstream regulators during vernalization in wheat.
By primarily employing single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) and single-nucleus ATAC sequencing (snATAC-seq), this study provides the first single-cell-level analysis of subgenome expression asymmetry and cell type–specific regulatory networks in hexaploid wheat root cells.
